Since its inception in 2009, Singer Vehicle Design has become a legendary tuning outfit, sparing no expense with its restomods of Porsche 911s, with many of the Southern California-based firm’s models becoming more desirable than vintage Porsches themselves. And not only has Singer established a reputation for their own elite builds but they’ve inspired the literal inception of several of its competitors.

Starting just below the half-million-dollar mark, Singer’s restomods are no stranger to even higher sale prices on the secondary market, including this 1990 Porsche 911 reimagining that’s up for grabs via RM Sotheby’s Private Sales sect.

From Cali to the U.K.

While Singer’s roots are right here in the United States, their reputation started to spread to the European market by 2015, when it made a special one-off in right-hand-drive specifications for roadgoing in the U.K. Singer founder Rob Dickinson was born and raised in Norfolk, England, so this project was a personal one as well.

Dubbed UK 1, the vehicle was the first RHD-spec “reimagining” ever performed by Singer. It was initially used for promotions and events, and was even driven by Marino Franchetti and Chris Harris in the Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb in 2015. After that, it was featured on the cover of Evo magazine, driven by journalist Dickie Measen, who was quoted saying, “If I had to choose one car, to own and drive from now until the day I die, it would be this.”

Singer UK 1 Basics

Based on a 1990 Porsche 911 model, the UK 1 was built with all the hallmarks of early-model Singer builds, including the carbon fiber detailing and hand-built Cosworth 3.8-liter flat-six-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive. You can see the Egg Yolk yellow exterior in the photos, while the inside is given black leather on its “comfort” Recaro seats and rear seats, with Singer badging on the dashboard. There’s also a roll bar, a Becker stereo, and a navigation system. The UK 1 has been driven fewer than 4,650 miles.
